Frequently Asked Questions about Stefano's workshops

And I am not good at taking pictures... Can I still join?

This would be an excellent reson to join. The workshop is suited for the pace of everyone interested in photography. Pro or even professionals will know what they want, and will have enough time to do their thing, while less experienced photographers will have the benefit of learning directly from the field, in one of themost beautiful scenarios in the world. We will work together in Team and everyone will benefit also from the experience of fellow travellers. In the evening, there will be discussions in a relaxed athmosphere. Every day we will set ourself a theme of the day, and we will hav the possibility of exchanging our experiences with each other at the end of each day.

I don´t have good photographic equipment. What can I do?

In this case with a small surcharge which varied depending on your wishes, we will be able to provide all equipment you need for making good pictures. If your interest is more focussed on the Wildlife photography and you think you are missing a long Tele-Lens, you should not worry too much. A 400mm or even a 500mm are a nice to have, but not strictily necessary for a successfull photo-safari. You will be amaized how close the wild animals will be!

Why should I join Stefano´s Safari and not a regular one?

Unlike other Safari, this one has been thought and organized in order to fit the needs and wishes of ambitioned photographers. I work with the best and most reliable local tour operators ensuring best quality for a competitive price. The workshops are about learning from each other in a spirit of cooperation and most of all a lot of fun. But there will not be boring lectures. Instead interesting evening discussion, sharing the "catch of the day" and studying together how to improve everybody´s skills. The workshop includes drivers and naturalist guides who are very good trained and have extenvive knowledge about the country, the people, the fauna and flora and have many years of experience doing this job. We usually chose the dates of the safari in periods when it is likely to follow the wildebeest migration. For our Safari in Namibia, there will be some really good opportunity for good shots. We will use small Cessna aircrafts for photographing the red dunes of Sossusvlei from the sky.

What vehicles do you use during an African Safari?

This depends on the trip you are booking. generally we use Jeeps with extended body. Each jeep has 3 rows of seats, and I allow a maximum of three passengers per Land Rover in order to assure optimum space for photographic equipment and view from both windows for each passenger. The jeeps also have retractable roof, allowing a 360 degrees view. The drivers we work with are among the best you will be able to find. Besides being traines off-road drivers they are trained wildlife and naturalistic guides and they are used working with professional photographers.

Can I join if I am not so good taking pictures? Can my partner join?

I would say this would be a very good reason for joining. During the whole safari and in the evening Stefano will be available for any type of question. There will be informal discussions at the end of the days, and we will share with each other "the catch of the day". We will work in a fun and relaxed athmosphere and enjoy the most amaizing landscape and wildlife sceneries you can find in Africa.

What kind of accomodation will I have?

Our Safaris use a mix of Accomodations, Lodges, and Luxury Tented Camps. All locations are clean, safe and guarded. The accomodation id on a full board basis and the food served is very good, unless it is specified otherwise in the description. In Tanzania all of them are located inside the National Parks and because of their strategic position, they offer very dramatic sceneries and views, and allow a very close contact with nature and the wild animals.

What if the Jeeps break Down?

Because of the excellent logistic support, in the unlikely event of a breakdown, there will be a replacement within few hours. The jeeps we use are in very good conditions abnd serviced every 4000Km.

Vaccinations and medical issues

During the last years I have gained quite a bit of experience about travelling to tropical countries. I brief every participant about recommended vaccinations and provide information about what to bring along and how t obehave in order to minimize risk of illness. There are a couple of useful websites that give a good overview of what one needs before travelling to a tropical region.
